Roger Allen is a professional artist working in the mediums of oil and watercolour. Based in Derbyshire for over 15 years he is well known for his depictions of the Peak District through the seasons, although his work is not restricted to this one area. Less well known is his fascination with the urban landscape, both the industrial past and the modern city.

Roger has exhibited at galleries throughout the Midlands and East Anglia, and since moving to Derbyshire his work has been selected each year for the Derby City Open and Derbyshire Open Art Exhibitions, at the latter receiving 5 commendations and winning the 2003 watercolour prize. His work was also selected for the 1993 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and he has been awarded two 2nd prizes and a 3rd prize at the Wellingborough Open. Roger's paintings are in the collections of the Landmark Trust, Wellingborough Borough Council, and Sir Paul Smith as well as over 500 paintings in private collections from America to Zimbabwe.

The tradition of the Romantic movement in British landscape painting may be discerned in his work, but a long association with farming informs an awareness that this is a working landscape; realism as opposed to idealism. Usually working 'en plein air' he follows the Pre Raphaelite precept of truth to nature as can be seen in his closely observed work.
